The different pathologies of the knee

Because the knee is a complex and very demanding part of the body, it is also the seat of many pathologies. Knee strengthening is recommended to reduce risk. Here is a non-exhaustive list of knee pathologies (causes of knee pain) :

  • Inflammation is a pain that can be debilitating. It is caused by a fall, a shock or a “false movement”. Inflammations are in the vast majority transient. To relieve pain, it is possible to apply a source of heat or cold, but also to take painkillers.
  • Tendonitis is characterized by inflammation of the tendons. Among the pathologies, there are: tendinopathy which is a progressive deterioration of the tendon, tendinosynovitis which is an inflammation of the synovial sheath or rupture of the tendon.
  • Wiper syndrome is caused by repetitive motion. It causes sometimes unbearable pain.
  • Osteoarthritis of the knee is the most common pathology, caused by wear and progressive destruction of cartilage. The disease is both painful and debilitating.

If you have knee pain, you should consult your doctor. This health professional will advise you on the physical activities to be preferred in case of knee pain and rest periods to respect. Know that sometimes physiotherapy sessions are prescribed to relieve and strengthen the knees.
